I was a huge fan of Hollow Knight from the moment it released and I played that game and its DLC to completion, seeing all endings and exhausting all optional content. While I used to do this often with games when I was younger, I rarely have the time, the attention, and the will do to the same to other games at this stage in my life. As a father with three kids, a full-time photographer, and someone with probably one too many hobbies, I rarely have the time necessary to see everything a game has to offer. So when Hollow Knight: Silksong FINALLY released, I figured I would do my best effort to find as much as I could on my way to earning the “best” ending of the game. Fast forward to 72 game hours later, I exhausted all optional content in Silksong.

Team Cherry, simply put, crafted another video game masterpiece. The hold that Silksong held on me was absolute, and if I had five free minutes, I was picking up my Switch 2 and exploring or taking one more shot at a boss that had stomped me into the ground the last time around. Every inch of this game is so finely detailed and so perfectly planned out, it’s really hard to pull away from that world. In the end, I couldn’t be pulled away until I had seen it all.
This week, I noticed that Silksong picked up a nomination for Game of the Year from The Game Awards. Obviously well deserved, whether it wins or not won’t change how fantastic of a gaming experience Silksong proves to be. I don’t put a lot of stock into those award shows, especially as they become more and more commercial, but it’s nice to see Team Cherry get some mainstream recognition for a game that was so obviously built for the sake or art and pure gameplay enjoyment.
Now that I’ve wrapped on Silksong, I’m playing the waiting game for DLC and turning my attention toward the games that got set aside for this massive detour. I still need to finish Donkey Kong: Bananza, Hades II, and dive into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. As much as I love and I’m excited for these games, I wish there was just one more thing to go hunt down in the world of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
